We have all endured our share of long, boring and unproductive meetings. In reality, I have lead many of them and may be more of the problem than the solution. The transition from a positional model of leadership to a more participatory model is driving some of this problem. This post by Brad Lomenick was very helpful to me:

Leadership team members benefited individually in professional development and the organization became more effective. Much less energy was devoted to non-productive interaction, resulting in better and more expedient decision making.

In summary, during a two year period, Dan led the leadership team through multiple dimensions of leadership development, including team building, succession planning and personal professional development of each member.
